Windland is a digital city I built in early 2022 to answer one question: can a browser show **real optical effects**, depth of field and a stack of post-processing, on a stylized world and still feel directed, not just rendered?

## What it did

It was created as a showcase of those possibilities, and it became **the first project featured on the Three.js homepage**. For me it is a milestone for the community: proof that high-end optical effects and immersive environments could live side by side on the open web.

## What it looks like

- **Depth of field** and soft focus shape every frame,
- **atmospheric depth** and cinematic polish turn a stylized world into something that feels like a shot,
- the effects are advanced post-processing, applied to the whole frame.

## Videos about it

Years later I kept coming back to this city. There is a [project breakdown of the award-winning city](https://andersonmancini.dev/videos/threejs-award-winning-project-breakdown-windland-3d-digital.md), a video of it [in VR and AR](https://andersonmancini.dev/videos/threejs-windland-in-vr-ar.md) and the [original city project by Neotix](https://andersonmancini.dev/videos/windland-threejs-city-project-by-neotix.md).

## The story

The making of it is in the [Codrops case study](https://andersonmancini.dev/blog/windland-codrops-case-study.md), and the [list of projects featured on the homepage](https://andersonmancini.dev/blog/threejs-org-homepage-featured-projects.md) has the timeline.

## Try it

The city is live at [windland-neotix.vercel.app](https://windland-neotix.vercel.app/), and the details are on the [project page](https://andersonmancini.dev/projects/windland-experience.md).
